The Chief Justice of Edo State, Daniel Okungbowa, today sworn in the newly elected Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, both of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Marking the end of the era of the erstwhile governor, Godwin Obaseki, Okungbowa administered the oath of office to the new governor and his deputy at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
The swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by the nation’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, the chairman of the governors’ forum, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, APC governors and legislators at state and federal levels, the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, the party chieftains and loyalists, and dignitaries across the country.
On September 21, 2024, Edo State Governorship Election, Okpebholo won with 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 247,274 votes. The Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata came in third with 22,763 votes.
