The incumbent Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate in the Edo Governorship Election, has won in 11 local government areas, while his closest rival, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has won in five local government areas out of the 16 local government results already released as of 11.30 am on Sunday, September, 2020.
The results of two local government areas, Oriowon and Ovia South West, are being awaited. With these results already announced, though Obaseki is leading by about 80,000 votes, the PDP needs at least one more local government to meet the two third requirement. At least 12 out of the State’s 18 local governments must be won for the PDP to be declared the winners.
The PDP are already apprehensive that the APC may be likely want the INEC to declare the election inconclusive on technical ground.
In a tweet, the PDP stated, “#EdoDecides2020: Alert-The delay in the announcement of the remaining two LGAs by @inecnigeria is totally unacceptable. The Edo Guber Election is concluded. We therefore reject any attempt to declare the election inconclusive”.
