There are strong indications that the 2024 governorship election has been reduced to the contest between the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, and All Progressive Congress (APC), Monday Okpebholo, as the results so far released have deleted the candidate of Labour Party (LP), Olumide Akpata, as a possible winner of the election.
The highest scores in the polling units are been recorded by either PDP or APC as the duo are battling one another in producing the next governor of Eddo State.
It is difficult to categorically state who is in the early lead but indications show that PDP might retain the state.
Akpata even lost his polling unit to Ighodalo. Ighodalo polled 41 votes to defeat Akpata, who garnered 32 votes at polling unit 11, Ward 06, Oredo LGA in Benin City, the capital of Edo and Okpebholo scored 19 votes.
However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has uploaded 74.68 percent of the results of the election on its Result Viewing Portal.
The report from the portal on Saturday revealed that 3,375 results out of 4,519 polling units where elections were conducted in the state have been uploaded to the portal.
