The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed 27 staff members for alleged fraudulent activities and misconduct.
In a statement issued on Monday, Dele Oyewale, spokesperson for the anti-graft agency, disclosed that the dismissal was approved by Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC chairman, following recommendations from the agency’s Staff Disciplinary Committee.
“The EFCC dismissed 27 officers from its workforce in 2024 for various offences bordering on fraudulent activities and misconduct. The action was approved by the Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, in line with the recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee,” the statement reads.
Oyewale emphasised the agency’s commitment to maintaining integrity within its ranks, adding that the EFCC would investigate all allegations against its staff, no matter how minor.
He referenced a trending claim involving an unidentified staff member and a sectional head over $400,000, which the agency is currently probing.
“Olukoyede reiterated the commission’s zero tolerance for corruption, warning that no officer is immune to disciplinary measures. Every allegation, regardless of its nature, will be thoroughly investigated,” the statement added.
The EFCC also addressed ongoing impersonation schemes, revealing that two individuals, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim, have been arraigned for allegedly impersonating Olukoyede.
The duo reportedly demanded $1 million from Mohammed Bello-Koko, a former managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, claiming it would secure him “soft-landing” on a fictitious investigation.
The commission condemned these acts, describing them as attempts to undermine its credibility. “Olukoyede remains a man of integrity who cannot be swayed by monetary influences. The public is urged to report such fraudulent elements to the EFCC,” Oyewale stated.
The agency further alleged that some suspects under investigation for economic and financial crimes are behind plots to blackmail its officers. It vowed to maintain its stance against corruption while pursuing justice.
