A veteran Nollywood actor Elegbeje Ado has said that he can never act in worldly films, saying that he could only act in Christian movies if invited.
Ado, now the founder of Power of the Deliverance Ministry revealed this during a chat with Kunle Afod, a Nollywood actor.
The veteran explained that God called him out of the movie industry to serve him as a minister of God, pointing out that disobedience could earn him a severe punishment, which he would never prayed for.
According to him, he never dreamt of leaving the movie industry because he was born into it reiterating, “I didn’t want to leave the theatre because I was born into it. My father was a magician. He was acting when he was alive and he used to carry masquerade. My mother is a singer and a composer. Acting is in the family’s blood. I never planned to leave the theatre. Who do you know that wants to leave the theatre? I was to do it because it is in my blood “and that was why I was doing it.”
He explained his Christian journey thus, “Formerly, I was an Assistant Sunday School Superintendent at Calvary Pentecostal Church (CPC). God was using me for different things. When I pray for people, God listens and answers my prayer. He performs miracles through me. We were organising public evangelism. At a point, I left the Altar and went to act film. At the time, the artists who were closer to me knew that if God said this through me, that thing would come to pass. At a point, God said, enough is enough. One day, I went to discuss a film with Germany (an actor) and I presented a script to him. I asked him to cooperate with me and to let us do the movie together. When I got home, God asked me if I wanted to go and do film again. He asked me to leave the film industry and come to him. I wept. I wondered about what I would eat and drink. I was bothered about who will stay with me. Eventually, I said well, you created me, you own me, and you know me. I am ready for you. Since then, I have never gone back to ask about that script that I gave to Germany again. People were calling but I was telling them that I am now a man of God. I can’t come back to the theatre again. What God wants me to do is what I am now doing. He will take care of me.”
Ado emphasised, “I can’t act again. To obey is better than sacrifice. God has used me in the secular. He is now using me in his house. Am I greater than him? If I go back to acting and he asks me if that is the way I want to go and thereafter, he abandons me leading to my sudden death, who will save me from him? He that keeps me from the womb, protects me from all challenges, and stands by me, do you think He doesn’t know what he is doing? Bringing me to the ministry may mean that He is keeping me away from danger.”
