Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved the sum of N500million for victims of the #EndSARS protest and also for Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SME), as well as the employment of 5000 youths across all government Agencies.
Makinde equally approved the immediate recruitment of 1,500 AMOTEKUN personnel, who are expected to start training on Sunday November 1, 2020 and conclude on Sunday November 15, 2020.
The Governor revealed this today at the second phase of the Oyo State Security stakeholders meeting held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan and aimed at finding a way to move forward after the #ENDSARS protest, which grounded the country for almost a month.
In attendance at the meeting were the active players of the protest- #endsarsbrutality representatives, artisans, okada/micra operators and youths, held at the house of chiefs, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
The Government pointed out that the state government was determined to ensure that peace reign in the state as well as putting an end to arson and vandalization of public and private properties by hoodlums hiding under the guise of protest.
He affirmed his readiness to inaugurate the state Judicial Panel of Enquiry on Police brutalities on Monday November 2, 2020 and make the representatives of the various pressure groups as members.
In his speech, the speaker, Oyo state house of assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin appealed to the youths to give peace a chance and cooperate with the state government on the newly rolled out youth empowerment programmes.
In their separate remarks, the conveners of the #EndSARS protest in Oyo state, Comrade Adebobola Agbeja and her counterpart, Comrade Olusegun Akeju, said the youths would not back down on peaceful agitation until the government engage the youth through direct or indirect labour.
