Sunday Shodipe, allegedly involved in the series of murders in Akinyele local Government in Ibadan, Oyo State, who escaped from Police custody, is said to have been re-arrested.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the development to the newsmen.
SP Fadeyi said: “The suspect has been rearrested and is currently in police custody.”
The 19 year old Shodipe escaped from the Mokola police station on Tuesday, August 11 2020 and was re-arrested on Sunday, August 23, 2020.
This led to a wave of protests against the police, prompting the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, to deploy crack detectives from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja to Oyo State to assist in his re-arrest.
It was gathered that Shodipe was re-arrested at the Bodija area of Ibadan and is currently being detained at the Eleyele police station.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, while commending the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu and his Team for a job well done, equally expressed his sincere appreciation to the citizens for their support and understanding while the manhunt for the re-arrested Shodipe lasted.
The IGP, however, warned against any form of complacency on the part of the operatives of the Oyo State Police Command, stressing that all hands must be on deck to bring the case to a positive and successful closure.
