The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has increased its Passengers Service Charge (PSC) from N1,000 to N2,000 for domestic and international from $50 to $100 effective 1st August, 2020.
The increment and intention to implement the new charge was communicated to the Airline Operators Committee in a memo.
According to the memo, the implementation of the new PSC is premised on the approval given by the Minister of Aviation which was sought with the intention to improve and upgrade the airport infrastructure among others.
Passengers Service Charge is paid by passengers, collected on behalf of FAAN by the airlines, tickets of payment by passengers are attached to every tickets purchased by air travelers both domestic and international.
The increment is expected to trigger a rise in fares as passengers begin to patronise airlines when the ban on air travel, occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic, is lifted.
