The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, (NGF), Dr John Kayode Fayemi yesterday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to bestow the responsibility of distributing palliative materials on the states’ governors.
Fayemi, who is the Governor of Ekiti, stated this while having his first teleconference meeting with the President.
He said the only way the distribution of palliative could be effective is for the governors to take charge, adding that with the governors in charge of the scheme, the palliatives would penetrate all nooks and crannies of the country.
The NGF Chairman emphasised in a press statement signed by NGF spokesperson, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo that,“Palliatives would be even more meaningful if they were distributed through the State Governors”.
Commending the President over his recent national broadcast, Fayemi noted that the President’s address to the nation succinctly captured the mood of the nation and showed that his administration was in touch with the plight of the man on the street.
He described the two weeks extension of the lockdown in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos and Ogun States by the president as the right way to go.
He also told the president that the targeted testing strategy adopted by the country has done a lot, pointing out that there was need for more testing.
The NGF Chairman added that the governors were desirous of having some more testing facilities so as to deepen the gains already made by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
