The Federal Government has announced the approval of a new policy for toll gates across Nigeria.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 after a federal executive council meeting.
It was gathered that the executive council granted approval of the ‘Federal Roads and Bridges Tolling Policy and Regulations’.
The policy states that Nigerians are to pay tolls for using any federal road in the country.
Only bicycles, tricycles, motorcycles, Diplomatic vehicles, Military and Paramilitary vehicles are exempted.
Roads users are to pay the following: Cars: N200, SUVs: N300, Private Buses: N300, Commercial Buses: N150, Luxury Buses and Trucks: N500.
Fashola recalled that a willingness-to-pay survey was carried out prior to the pricing framework.
He said the toll payment would not start now, adding that the government had introduced the policy to help people, states, local governments, road managers and investors get a feel for the initiative.
Toll collection will begin once the roads are passable and will only affect federal two-lane roads.
