The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Joint Tax Board, has announced a significant upward review of the rates for the National Drivers License and Vehicle Number Plates.
The government noted that the increase in the fees is aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of the production process of the drivers’ license and plate number.
According to a statement signed by Assistant Corps’ Marshal, Corps Public Engagement Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Olusegun Ogungbemide, and dated October 8, 2024, the decision was made during the 155th JTB Appraisal and Technical Committee Meeting, held on September 10, 2024.
The statement pointed out that the revised fees come in response to the rising costs of production, exacerbated by the current economic conditions, including increased prices for imported materials used in the production of both the number plates and driver’s licenses. “Since the last rate adjustment in 2021, when the exchange rate was ₦411.63 to $1, the cost of materials sourced internationally has surged”, the statement added.
The new rates, which will take effect on November 1, 2024, are as follows:
For vehicle number plates:
- Standard Private and Commercial Number Plates: ₦30,000 each
- Fancy Vehicle Number Plates: ₦400,000
- Motorcycle Number Plates: ₦12,000
- Articulated Vehicle Number Plates: ₦90,000
- Dealer Number Plates: ₦100,000
- Out of Series Number Plates: ₦150,000

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) assured the public that these new tariffs will not only cover the increased production costs but also enhance the seamless production process and improve overall service delivery to the motoring public.
The FRSC encourages the public to take note of the new rates, which will come into effect on November 1, 2024, and continue to enjoy more efficient and improved services.
