The Minister of Education in Nigeria, Professor Tahir Mamman has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to teachers’ welfare, emphasizing comprehensive packages for their upliftment.
Mamman, who said this at a world press conference to Mark the 2024 World Teachers’ Day, acknowledges teachers’ critical role in human capital development and nation-building. “Teachers are the backbone of societal transformation.
Pointing out that teachers are the backbone of societal transformation, he noted that the Federal Government has established specialized universities of education and implemented bursary awards of which 3,317 students benefited in 2022, and more are expected in 2024.
Earlier, the national president of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Titus Amba appealed for immediate implementation of a new salary scale, housing estates and special allowances for rural teachers.
