The Nigerian government has impounded a British aircraft running commercial flights into the country despite the ban on international flights due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, made this known on Sunday, on Twitter.
According to him, the aircraft, Flair Aviation, an aviation company with ties to Germany and the United Kingdom, has been seized and the crew are being interrogated.
Sirika explained that in addition to the confiscated Aircraft, a “maximum penalty” would be imposed on the company, for the contravention of Federal Government’s ban on commercial flights, as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
The Minister tweeted: “COVID-19. Flair Aviation, a UK company, was given approval for humanitarian operations but regrettably we caught them conducting commercial flights. This is callous! The craft is impounded, crew being interrogated. There shall be maximum penalty. Wrong time to try our resolve!”.
