The Federal Government has inaugurated a 12-man National Advisory Committee (NAC), on the nation’s Universities of Technology. The inauguration took place at National Universities Commission (NUC), Abuja.
The Committee, among others is saddled with the responsibilities of advising the Federal Government on the necessity or otherwise of establishing new universities of technology and the appropriate sitting of such universities.
The Committee will be expected to produce a policy framework for the newly-established universities of technology, prepare a budget based on the infrastructural requirements and other needs of the existing universities of technology and take-off of the newly established universities of technology and advise the Federal Government on any matter(s) relating to the newly-established universities of technology.
The Committee will have to interface with the relevant stakeholders in ensuring the smooth operations of the universities of technology, look into existing universities of technology vis a vis their mission, vision and goals since inception and advise the Federal Government, appropriately.
The formation of the Committee was sequel to a recent comprehensive review of the policy guiding the establishment of universities of Technology.
Members of the committee are: Professors Joseph Ajienka of the Petroleum Engineering Department, University of Port Harcourt, (Chairman), Abel Idowu Olayinka, former VC, University of Ibadan, Engr. Danladi S. Matawal, DG. Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, Mrs Ongoebi Maureen Etebu, VC, Nigerian Maritime University and Abubakah Kundiri, former VC, Federal University, Dutse.
Others are: Federal University, Wukari and Mala Mohammed Daura, VC, Yobe State University, Engr. Muhammad Yahuza Bello, Pro-Chancellor/Chairman, Governing Council, Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, former VC, Federal University of Technology, Yola, Dr Noel Biodun Saliu, Director, (Research Administration and Monitoring, NUC, Engr. Abraham L., Chundusu (Secretary), Yahaya M. Maiturare (Assistant Secretary) and the Director of Universities FME.
