The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu today affirmed that school resumption date of Monday January 18, 2021, stands, urging relevant authorities, parents, students and respective institutions should full comply with Covid-19 protocols.
According to a statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Ben Bem Goong, the minister said that after extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders, including state governors, commissioners of education, proprietors/proprietress, head of institutions, staff unions and students, the consensus of opinion is that the resumption date of 18th January should remain.
However, the government mandated that wearing of facemasks by all students, teachers, workers in all schools as well as temperature checks and provision of hand washing facilities at strategic locations in all schools.
“The schools are asked to enforce maintenance of social distancing, suspend large gatherings such as assembly and visiting days, avoiding overcrowding, including limitations in class sizes and hostels.
Also, there must be availability of functional health clinics with facilities for isolation and transportation for suspected cases to medical facilities and adherence to all other non-pharmaceutical protocols, restrictions and containment measures as may be prescribed or approved by the PTF from time to time.
“These measures which are to ensure safe reopening of schools for academic activities will be subject to constant review as we urge teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to ensure strict compliance”, the statement concluded.
