The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended two top senior officers of the prison service in connection with the viral allegation by Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye alias Bobrisky.
The two officers are the Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), in charge of Medium Security Custodian Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State, Michael Anugwa, and the Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), in charge of Maximum –Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State, Sikiru Adekunle.
Also caught in the web is ASC 11 Ogbule Samuel Obina, serving at the Medium Security Custodian Centre (MSCC), Afikpo, Ebonyi State, who was suspended for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the custodian centre to a location outside the facility.
According to a press statement signed by the Secretary to the Board, JJa’afaru Ahmed, ” In another related development, the Board has equally suspended another Senior Officer of the Service, Iloafonsi Kelvin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of corrections (DCC), in charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje, Abuja, for allegedly receiving monies on behalf of an inmate.”
The statement explained that the suspension of these officers is to allow for further investigation of the various allegations while assuring that the outcome would be made public when concluded.
It will be recalled that Bobrisky claimed in a viral voice recording leaked by a social media influencer, Martins Otse, a.k.a. VeryDarkMan that he spent his six-month jail slammed on him by the court for abusing Naira in a private apartment sequel to a bribe of N9, 000, 000 he gave to the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa.
He also alleged that a Nigerian erudite lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) collected N10,000,000 to secure a presidential pardon.
Okuneye also alleged that some staff of the Economic and Financial Service Commission (EFCC) collected N10,000,000 to drop the charge bordering on money laundry, which the chairman of the commission has also commenced investigation.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has ordered a thorough investigation into allegations of bribery within the Nigerian Correctional Service.
However, Verydarkblankman has raised alarm over a threat to his life saying that he is no longer secure in his house.
