A multimillion-naira statistics office and lecture room building donated to the University of Ibadan (UI) by TETFUND was today gutted by fire.
According to the information gathered, the inferno started around 4pm today and as of the time of filing this report, efforts are still being made to put out the fire.
It was gathered that fire fighters have been battling the fire since it broke out.
The fire has destroyed the roof and weaken the building to the extent that it may not be safe for use any longer.
A source revealed, “This is a disaster that befell the nation’s Premier University. TETFUND donated the building to the Department of Statistics and it has been commissioned for use. The inferno started around 4 pm and since then, we have been trying to put it off. We have recorded a tremendous success but we are still there. This is around 8 pm.”
Our source could not be exact about the cause of the inferno but said that it was as a result of bush burning.
It was gathered that the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale and other principal officers were on ground to access the situation.
