The first batch of Nigerian evacuees from the United State of America has arrived in the country under the special evacuation process put in place by the Federal Government due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The batch of 160 Nigerians, including eight infants, came aboard an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787 aircraft.
Confirming their arrival in the country, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said “ET Flight 8509 conveying 160 Nigerian evacuees from the US has safely arrived Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja”.
The Minister added that the evacuees would be quarantined for 14 days in Abuja. They will be tested for Covid-19 and re-tested at the end of the quarantine period before leaving for their respective destinations in the country.
Also, announcing their arrival, Chairman/CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, wrote on Twitter, “Welcome home!Nigerian travelers stranded in the US. Now going on a 14 day compulsory quarantine as stipulated by @NCDCgov”.
