The former head of the Interim National Government in Nigeria, Chief Ernest Adegunle Oladeinde Shonekan, is dead.
The octogenarian, who succeeded General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and ruled the nation between August 26, 1993 to November 17, 1993, died in Lagos at the age of 85.
Shonekan has not ruled the nation for three months before late General Sani Abacha, the then Secretary of Defence booted him out of office in a palour coup.
The deceased was born May 6, 1936 in Lagos and attended CMS Grammar School and Igbobi College. He also attended University of London, where he obtained a law degree, as well as Harvard Business School.
He joined the United African Company of Nigeria in 1964 and rose through the ranks in the company. He was promoted assistant legal adviser, later deputy adviser, after which he joined the board of directors at the age of 40. He was made chairman and managing director in 1980.
