Operatives of the Ghana Police Service have arrested 26 Nigerians for alleged criminal activities, including cyber crime, at Kasoa Iron City in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.
The deputy commissioner of police, Ghana Police Services, Okyere Boapeah, said the suspects were arrested based on intelligence gathered from the police headquarters.
DCOP Boapeah said police intelligence uncovered some criminal activities in Iron City, a suburb in Kasoa, adding that a team of police personnel were deployed to the area where the 26 suspects, including two women, were picked up from a house.
He said they retrieved 31 laptops, 26 mobile phones, five machetes and substances suspected to be Indian hemp from the suspects.
Boapeah stated that the suspects are expected to be screened and those found culpable would be charged to court.
He also admonished Ghanaian landlords who rent out their apartments to foreigners, particularly Nigerians, to conduct proper background checks on them, including finding out about their resident status from the Immigration Service.
