Justice J. Awak of the Gombe State High Court, Gombe on August 2, 2021, convicted and sentenced Ahmed Mohammed Mu’azu to three months imprisonment for impersonating officials of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
According to a statement from EFCC, the offence is contrary to Section 95 and Punishable under the same Section of Penal Code Law.
The defendant sometime in 2019, under the guise of empowering the youths through a Non-Governmental Organization, “Youth Empowerment Capacity Building Organization of Nigeria’”, Gombe branch, promised unsuspecting members of the public training opportunities at NITDA, charging N1,000 per participant.
Unfortunately, before he could execute his nefarious scheme, operatives of the Commission, arrested him in a sting operation facilitated through credible intelligence.
He pleaded guilty to the charge upon arraignment and was subsequently convicted and sentenced to three months imprisonment.
The judge, however, gave him an option of fine of N10, 000.00.
