Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has dethroned the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi ll.
Ganduje, who said that the dethronement was with immediate effect accused the paramount ruler of disrespecting him as a person, the office of the governor and other government agencies.
According to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, the emir’s disrespectful attitude violated the part 3 section A-E of Kano state law, adding that the removal was in line with consultation with relevant stakeholders.
Alhaji stated that a new emir would be announced soon and urged the people of Kano to remain calm and go about their normal businesses.
However, the development caused chaos in the state House of Assembly as the legislators were divided over the removal. The security operatives within the premises of the legislative arm prevented the crisis to snowball into unmanageable level.
