Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State today flagged off the construction of 360 Housing Units jointly sponsored by the Oyo State Government and Remax Realtors Limited at Ajoda New Town Housing Estate, Egbeda Local Government Area, Ibadan.
The Governor in his address stated that the project was in fulfilment of a part of his campaign promises as contained in the Roadmap for Accelerated Development in Oyo State, 2019-2023, which has the promise of facilitating a private sector driven housing scheme through variants of public-private partnership (PPP) initiatives.
Makinde said that the project was a PPP initiative with the Oyo State Government through the Oyo State Housing Corporation, and the government has provided 13 hectares of land for the scheme, while the developers would solely finance the entire project.
According to him, the 360 housing units, which would cost N2.5 Billion is made up of: 2-bedroom semi-detached houses; 3-bedroom semi-detached houses and 3-bedroom detached houses.
Makinde further pointed out that it was important to kick off in Ibadan as statistics have shown that the population of the capital city has been growing at over 2 per cent since 2018 with a peak of over 2.5 per cent in 2020, which means half of the population of Oyo State live in Ibadan Zone.
However, the scheme would be replicated in other parts of the state in the shortest possible time as promised by the governor.
He noted that housing was an essential need and called on all members of the public who are interested in buying lands in any of the government schemes to approach the appropriate government agencies for such purpose as the government is open to collaboration .
