Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde, has declared Wednesday, July 19, 2023, as a public holiday in the state to mark this year’s Hijrah 1445.
This decision comes as Wednesday also marks the first day of Muharram 1445AH, signifying the beginning of the Islamic New Year.
The declaration was made through a circular signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi. The circular extends congratulations to the Muslim faithful on the commencement of the New Year and urges them to utilize this occasion to pray for peace, unity, and the continued progress of both the state and the nation as a whole.
