The Good Deeds Day Nigeria Network has called on the Nigerian media to channel energy towards promoting reports of good deeds that are done in the country by good citizens rather than focusing entirely on crime.
This call was made on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the Good Deeds Day African leadership stepdown meeting held at the Kids and Teens Resource Centre, Akure. Ondo State.
The meeting was attended by the heads and representatives of various NGOs who discussed the need to expand humanitarian services towards doing good in the nation.
Addressing newsmen, the Country Head of Good Deeds Day Nigeria, Adetola Bamidele praised the efforts and commitments of the NGOs which are members of the good deeds movement adding, “This is a stepdown program for the conference held in Lagos, and the conference is the maiden edition of the West and Central Africa Good Deeds leaders.”
“We are here to learn and relearn how to do good deeds better and also assess our past works. We are also supposed to learn how other leaders are doing it in other countries. We will also borrow their ideas so that in the end, we can make a positive difference in our country”, he explained.
However, Bamidele argued that despite the challenges Nigeria faces as a nation, there is hope and through celebration of good deeds, Nigeria could be on its path to glory.
His words, “I feel highly impressed that Nigeria came fourth out of the 109 countries that partook in the global good deeds day celebration. Challenges are everywhere. Insecurity is not only peculiar to Nigeria. I am proud to be a Nigerian and I pledge to be faithful, loyal and honest. We felt that from our little corner what we can use to overcome vices is to do good deeds .In the global charity index of 2021, we came fourth and that shows that there are good things happening here. The media should not focus on spreading news of evil deeds. They should also promote good deeds. We seek to partner with them so that Nigeria can have a positive global representation
The Imo state coordinator of Good Deeds Day, Onyeoroh George emphasised that restoring morality and core values in Nigeria would be possible if the ideology of doing good is inculcated in Nigerians from infancy.
