Unknown gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents have attacked Katarko village, in Gujba Local Government Area, eighteen kilometres south of Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
The insurgents also burnt down a primary school and a healthcare centre located in the community.
An eye witness, Mallam Modu Mustapha told Radio Nigeria that the gunmen stormed the community while they were preparing for the early morning prayers around 5 am on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.
According to him, the insurgents also attacked the military formation in the Katarko community shooting sporadically and later set the base on fire.
There is no official statement or confirmed number of casualties yet.
Katarko community has witnessed many attacks in the past by insurgents.
