Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted 32 travellers on the Benin-Owo Expressway around Ifon in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The victims were said to be returning from a burial ceremony in Edo State on Saturday when the incident happened.
It was gathered that they were travelling in a Coastal bus to Benin City, Edo State, from Ondo State but on getting to Ifon area the hoodlums appeared from the bush and stopped the vehicle after which they whisked all the occupants of the vehicle into the bush.
As at the time of filing the report, it is not yet known if the kidnappers have reached out to the families of the victims.
The Public Relations Officer of Ondo Police SP Funmilayo Odunlami who confirmed the abduction, however, disclosed that one of the victims has been rescued and is now giving the police useful information regarding the incident, in a bid ton rescue the remaining victims.
It was also gathered that men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, were currently combing the Benin-Ifon to Owo forest in the state in search for the victims.
The state commander of the Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the command would do all in its power to rescue the victims and rid the state of criminals.
The commander stated that the men of the corps and other security agencies “have been briefed and have since commenced search for the victims.”
