Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Catholic Ecclesiastical Province, the Most Reverend Moses Chikwe has been abducted by yet to be identified gunmen.
A statement issued by the Archbishop of Owerri, the Most Reverend Anthony Obinna indicated that the sad incident took place on Sunday evening in Owerri, the state capital.
The primate charged faithful to join him in prayers for the speedy release of the Bishop.
It was gathered that after abducting the Bishop and his driver, the kidnappers went and parked his vehicle at the archdiocesan headquarters in Owerri.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Imo State Police Command, Orlando Ikeokwu who confirmed the incident said though no official complaint had been lodged, the command had activated its Quick Intervention Team and Anti Kidnapping unit to rescue the victim and possibly arrest the hoodlums.
Meanwhile, reports say the abductors are yet to establish contact with anyone since the incident.
This is the second time a catholic clergy was abducted in the state within the last one month.
