Justice Angela Ataluka of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting in Apo has pronounced the ex-member of the House of Representatives, Farouk Lawan, guilty of $3 million bribery case levied against him by the Federal Government on fuel subsidy in 2012 and sentenced him to 19 years imprisonment.
Justice Ataluka sentenced him to seven years each for count one and two and five years for count three saying that the jail terms should run concurrently. This means that the former lawmaker will only spend seven years in prison.
The judge equally ordered for restitution of the collected sum of $500,000.
According to the judge in a Suit No. FHC/HC/CR/76/2013, the prosecution proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
It would be recalled that Lawal demanded of a $3 million bribery charge from Femi Otedola and Otedola paid him $500,000 to remove his company from the list of indicted companies before the House of Reps Ad hoc committee on fuel subsidy.
