There was a commotion today at a place identified as Olakunle Area of Ijesha, Surulere, Lagos State, where some hoodlums stormed St Bridget Catholic Church and disrupted the registration exercise for Permanent Voters Card (PVC).
According to a video circulating on social media, a woman, who identified herself as Ambassador Princess Okojie Ogbomudea, reported that the hoodlum took away the registration machine belonging to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and also destroyed INEC materials.
According to the woman, the hoodlums stopped the exercise because they felt that those registering at the unit would vote for Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), which they do not want.
At the time of filing this report, it could not be ascertained whether the hoodlums are loyalists of the All Progressive Congress (APC) or Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ogbomudea said, “This is Bridget Catholic Church, a PVC Registration and Collection centre at Ijesatedo in Lagos State. To our greatest amusement, some hoodlums came here and carried away the machine that is being used to register the electorate. They said that if we are allowed to register, we will vote for Peter Obi. They have deprived a lot of people of registration. Is that what we will continue to face in this country? Will the country be taken back with this kind of attitude? How are we going to fight this corruption? As I am talking to you, a lot of people are disenfranchised, discouraged and stranded. We don’t know where we are facing in this country. Where are we going? How can somebody come into a church, a reputable church of this magnitude and carry the machine, which they are using to register people for PVC.”
