Kemi Afolabi, a staunch member of Nollywood has revealed that that she has only four more years to live as a result of incurable lupus she has been managing for a while.
According to her in an exclusive interview with Chude Jideonwo, her doctor said she has just five years to live.
She pointed out in tears that she had lived just one year after the doctor’s pronouncement.
She said, “I have lupus. It’s not curable. You just have to take medications for the rest of your life”
Lupus is an inflammatory disease caused when the immune system attacks its own tissues and it can affect the joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.
Its symptoms vary but can include fatigue, joint pain, rash and fever and these can periodically get worse (flare up) and then improve.
While there’s no cure for lupus, current treatments focus on improving quality of life through controlling symptoms and minimising flare-ups. This begins with lifestyle modifications, including sun protection and diet. Further disease management includes medication such as anti-inflammatories and steroids.
