The Graduate Research Clinic (GRC) is convening a Roundtable on Research and Development in Africa themed: ‘Transforming the Research Landscape in Africa for Africa’s Development: The Triple Helix Perspective’ to commemorate its 5th year of operations.
The event will be hosted virtually via Zoom, on Friday, 17th February, 2023, by 3pm WAT prompt.
According to a release signed by Tobi Adewunmi on behalf of the network, the Roundtable is considered imperative and timely, especially now that a consensus is forming among academics and enlightened mass publics about the need to realign the cardinal objectives of universities and research institutes to contribute meaningfully to human-centred industrial development and also leverage town-gown engagements with government institutions and the organised private sector for mobilising the intellectual and social capital required for achieving Africa’s development aspirations .
The statement reads: “At the Roundtable, a keynote talk titled, ‘Transforming the Research Landscape in Africa: Whose Transformation? For Whose Benefit?’, will be delivered by Prof. Oka Obono, a distinguished Professor of Sociology and Ethnodemography at the University of Ibadan, and principal consultant at the National Population Commission (NPC) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
“The Roundtable will be chaired by Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) and former Vice Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Okada
“Also expected to feature as guest discussants at the Roundtable are Dr Natalie Bienisch, the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Circular Economy Innovation Partnership, and former Lecturer at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, as well as Dr Michael Nwankpa, the Executive Director of African Conflict and Development and former Visiting Researcher at the Baker Institute for Public Policy, Rice University, United States.
“A communique is expected to be issued after the Roundtable to help inform policy reforms on research administration and technical cooperation in Africa’s Higher Education sector.
