Baale of Olokuyan Village in Lagelu Local Government Area, Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, Chief Olubade Ayoade Adeniran Fagoroye has condemned land grabbing.
Fagoroye, who stated this recently at the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Ajeogungunniso 1, during his installation as a village head noted that it is wrong and wicked for land owners to sell a piece of land to several people.
He urged any prospective land buyers to be very careful and ensure that all necessary precautions are taken before paying for any piece of land to avoid being duped.
Fagoroye, however, assured that shady business associated with land is not allowed in his village adding that no indigene of his village will dupe prospective land buyer.
“I am the Baale of Fagoroye Village. There are nine lineages in the village. How did this happen? Our forefather, who established our village has nine wives and before he died, he divided the village into nine portions, giving each to each wife. These nine wives transferred their portions of land to their children. So, children of each linage know their land. They know their boundaries. They also know that they cannot sell any land that does not belong to them. Secondly, they must not sell a piece of land to two persons”, he explained.
“In my village, if anyone wants to sell land, all the nine lineages must sit and endorse the portion to be sold in my presence”, he concluded.
