The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has deployed crack detectives from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja to Oyo State to assist in the re-arrest of Sunday Shodipe, allegedly involved in the series of murders in Akinyele local Government in Ibadan, Oyo State, who has escaped from Iyaganku police Station.
IGP Adamu further gave a marching order to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Nwachuku Enwonwu, to ensure the immediate re-arrest of the killer suspect.
According to a statement from the police authority, “The CP has also been directed to speedup investigations into the circumstances that led to the escape of the suspect. All persons indicted in the escape are to be identified and made to face the wrath of the law”.
IGP further directed the Commissioner to immediately assess and rejig the security architecture in the state so as to prevent any future occurrence of untoward incidents.
He, however, enjoined the residents of Oyo to cooperate with the Police in the enforcement of his order as it is aimed at ensuring safety of lives and property in the country.
It would be recalled that trouble started for the police command in Oyo State when some residents of Akinyele sighted the killer suspect in the area after he has been arrested, paraded and the police has assured that he would be charged to court for involving in series of killings in Akinyele.
After the confirmation that the suspect killer has been allegedly released, there was a mass protest in the area, demanding for the immediate re-arrest of the suspect when another victim was killed, alleging that the police has taken a compromised position in the matter.
But the State Commissioner of Police claimed that the suspect escape from their custody, reiterating that he was not released as being alleged.
He further stated that two policemen on duty when he escaped are currently facing an orderly room trial
