The Oyo State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr Adeniran Rahmon, on Tuesday, February 1, 2023, assured the leadership of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), of a continuous working relationship in the area of election management.
Rahmon gave the assurance while playing host to the leadership of the OYSIEC at the Commission’s headquarters, Ibadan.
He explained that both INEC and OYSIEC operate on the same frequency, hence, there is a need to build on the existing relationship between the electoral empires for a successful poll.
He stated that the preparation for the 2023 general election is in the advanced stage, adding that plans are underway to conduct mock elections in some selected local governments in the state.
Rahmon noted further that election would be conducted under new electoral law and guided by new technology to enhance transparency, expressing the readiness of INEC to partner with OYSIEC in necessary areas to have a credible and transparent election.
In his remarks, Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju said the visit was meant to interface with the new leadership of INEC and see how OYSIEC could assist in achieving success during the 2023 general elections.
Olagunju, who described the visit as obligatory, said the commission is on the verge of finalizing the review of its electoral law to meet the modern voting trend, adding that the amended bill has been forwarded to the Oyo State House of Assembly for further necessary action.
