Iranian authorities have executed four people accused of working for the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad.
This was announced by the Iranian judiciary website “Mizan”.
The men were identified as Hossein Ordoukhanzadeh, Shahin Imani Mahmoudabad, Milad Ashrafi Atbatan and Manouchehr Shahbandi Bojandi.
Three other defendants were sentenced to between five and ten years in prison for crimes against the country’s security, kidnapping and possession of weapons.
Last May, Iranian security forces said they had arrested members of “a network acting under the direction of the Israeli intelligence service”.
The executions come at a time of high tensions in Iran, after more than two months of protests sparked by the death of 22-year-old Kurdish Mahsa Amini, who died last September 16 following her arrest by the Iranian morality police for not wearing the veil in proper way.
The Iranian authorities have repeatedly accused foreign powers of having directed the ongoing protests in the country.
