The Founding President, Women Arise for Change Initiative and an award winning human rights activists, Josephine Obiajulu Okei-Odumakin, popularly called Joe Odumakin has described the daily increase of coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria as scary.
Odumakin, who expressed this fear on her facebook page said, “The figures of death toll in Italy, Spain, US and other parts of the western world must not be allowed to happen in our beloved country. We have started to see early signs of community transmission of #COVID19 in Nigeria”.
While commending the lockdown order in Lagos, Ogun and Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, she opined that the order, to a large extent, would check community-to-community and person-to-person transmission of the virus.
“But that alone will not send the virus away. We as a people need to play our own role by adopting social distancing and maintaining a high level of personal hygiene as advised by relevant authorities”, she added.
