Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday June 21, 2021, convicted the duo of Oluwole Gbenga Caleb and Ayoola Oluwafemi for impersonation.
According to the Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, the offence of impersonation runs contrary to Section 22(2) (b) (i) and is punishable under Section 22(2) (b) (IV) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015.
They were convicted on a separate one count charge of impersonation preferred against them by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
While Oluwole was sentenced to a month imprisonment, Ayoola was asked to serve three month jail term. The duo were ordered to restitute $200 to their victims and made to forfeit their Infinix, Iphone 6, and a Lexus RX 350 SUV car to the Federal Government of Nigeria
Oluwole, 26, an architect, whom a number of incriminating documents were recovered from his email, was arrested on February 9, 2021.
