The Chief Judge of Delta State in Nigeria, Justice Marshal Umukoro on Monday April 20, 2020 released 25 convicted inmates from Kwale Custodian Centre.
According to the Chief Judge “The inmates so released are those who have less than three years to serve and are of good behavior, those who have served 75 per cent of their sentence, low risk offenders, and those suffering from ill-health likely to terminate in death”.
According to the Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Corrections Service, Delta State, DSC Mgbakor Uche, the Chief Judge admonished the released inmates to be of good behavior and to be obedient to rules and regulations, especially now that the government has shown mercy on them.
Also, the Controller of Corrections in-charge of Delta command, Ovie Friday Esezobor, registered his unalloyed appreciation to the CJ and the state government for this gesture, as it would make the custodial centre to heave a sigh of relief.
He encouraged the released inmates to continue to imbibe good virtues as they were going back to the larger society., warning them to desist from crime because if re-arrested, they may not be lucky to have their term shortened.
