The process to extradite the fleeing Binance executive, Nadeeem Anjarwalla back to Nigeria has commenced has the Kenya Police Service has arrested him.
Anjarwalla, an executive of cryptocurrency platform Binance, who fled Nigeria some weeks ago is facing trial in Nigeria on alleged $35 million money laundering and tax evasion charges.
Anjarwalla had escaped from custody in Nigeria following the Federal Government’s crackdown on the cryptocurrency platform in a bid to strengthen the naira and the Nigerian authorities later traced Anjarwalla to the East African nation.
According to Punch, a source revealed, “Binance executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla, has been arrested by the Kenya Police Service, and he would be extradited to Nigeria this week by INTERPOL.”
Anjarwalla escape from lawful custody in Nigeria and fled to Kenya to evade prosecution.
The EFCC chairman, Ola Olukuyede, last month, in a statement, stressed that the commission is collaborating with INTERPOL, the US, UK, Northern Ireland and Kenyan authorities to extradite Anjarwalla, who has been on the run.
The commission had instituted five-count charges bordering on tax evasion, currency speculation and money laundering against Binance Holdings Limited, Tigran Gambaryan and Anjarwalla, the firm’s executives.
EFCC arraigned Binance and the two executives on Thursday, April 4, 2024.
