A Nigerian Army colonel, SB Onifade, a consultant gynaecologist, who was kidnapped after running into an ambush along Abuja-Kaduna Highway, has been killed by his abductors despite collecting N10million ransom.
Col. SB Onifade was on a road trip at about 3:00 a.m. on September 27, 2020 near the Olam Farms axis of the highway when he was abducted by bandits.
In a statement dated October 25, 2020, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Medical Association, Kaduna State Branch, Abdulsalam Abdulrazaq, stated that Onifade was killed on Saturday, October 24, 2020 despite payment of N10million ransom.
The statement read in part: “On behalf of the Chairman of NMA Kaduna State Branch, we commiserate with the immediate family, friends and Nigerian Army on the death of Col. SB Onifade.
“He was kidnapped two weeks ago between Abuja – Kaduna road. 10 m ramson was paid but he was still killed yesterday by his abductors.
“Until his death, he was the HOD of O&G Department, 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Kaduna State.
“We pray for the repose of his soul”.
