Policemen attached to the Adamawa Police Command have successfully rescued two kidnapped Catholic priests, Reverend Fathers Abraham Samman and Matthew David Dusami, following a well-coordinated operation that led to the arrest of a key suspect.
According to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the priests were abducted on February 21, 2025, prompting extensive rescue efforts targeting suspected criminal hideouts across the state.
These efforts yielded significant results with the arrest of one Tahamado Jonathan Demian, a 34-year-old alleged to be a member of the same church as the victims. Demian was reportedly linked to the abduction of the priests who serve in the Catholic Dioceses of Yola and Jalingo, respectively.
The police confirmed that the meticulous operation culminated in the successful rescue of the two clergymen on March 8, 2025. Both victims were found unharmed, and no ransom was paid for their release. They are currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.
During the operation, the police recovered a locally fabricated assault rifle, ammunition, a handset, and SIM cards.
In a separate operation, the policemen attached to the Bayelsa State Police Command rescued Loveday Akari, the Special Assistant to the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), following his abduction at Ayakoro Community in Ogbia Local Government Area.
According to the police, it received a distress call around 3:03 PM on March 7, 2025, triggering an immediate response.
Its swift reaction led to the rescue of the victim and another unidentified individual, both unharmed and without any ransom payment.
