A serving member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr Okechukwu Okoye, kidnapped by gunmen last Sunday has been beheaded by his abductors.
On Saturday, the lawmaker’s head was publicly displayed by the assailants at the Chisco Motor Park in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
The lawmaker, an indigene of Isuofia, representing the Aguata North constituency, and popularly known as “Okey Di Okay”, was kidnapped late on Sunday.
The Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, is from the constituency.
The lawmaker was abducted alongside his campaign director, Cyril Chiegboka, in Aguata.
His black Siena SUV was later recovered by the police.
Okoye was kidnapped days after he obtained the nomination and expression of interest forms of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in his bid to seek re-election on the party’s platform.
Governor Soludo had during the presentation of the revised 2022 budget to the Assembly last Thursday, decried the lawmaker’s abduction and demanded his immediate release by the gunmen.
He also condemned the growing insecurity in the state.
