The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin has crowned the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja an Oba in the line to the Olubadan throne.
Ladoja, the former governor of Oyo State had initially rejected the elevation of the members of the Olubadan-in-Council to the status of monarch saying that the elevation contradicts the tradition of Ibadanland.
Ladoja berated his colleagues for accepting crowns he described as ‘Ade Onipali”, meaning “hard paper crown”.
Following the amendment of the chiefs laws in Ibadan elevating the Ibadan high chiefs to monarchs, the idea initiated by the erstwhile governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, and passed into law by Governor Seyi Makinde, it becomes impossible for high chiefs to become Olubadan, hence, Ladoja accepted the beaded crown in a bid to succeed Olakulehin.
The Oyo State Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal presented the staff of office to Ladoja at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan..
