The Lagos State Government has indefinitely closed down all Chrisland Schools in the state over alleged sexual violence case involving students of the school.
A statement signed by the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Ministry of Justice, Office of Education and Quality Assurance and Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency revealed this.
It will be recalled that a Nigerian music executive, Ubi Franklin recently took to Twitter on Sunday evening to narrate how a 10-year-old girl of Chrisland was allegedly raped by her fellow students, videotaped and the recording shared on instagram.
The statement pointed out that the allegation is under investigation.
The statement reads:
“The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to the alleged sexual violence case involving students of Chrisland School.
“It is pertinent to note that all allegations are being investigated by the relevant ministries, Departments and Agencies, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Ministry of Justice, Office of Education and Quality Assurance and Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, whilst the criminal allegations have been escalated to the commissioner of police.
“In view of the allegations, we are committed to ensuring that adequate medical and psychosocial support is provide.
“This is to reassure members of the public of the state government’s commitment to solely and child protection, especially in ensuring that all child-central institutions within the state, formualte and implement policies and systems that are compliant with the Executive Order (NO. EO/AA08 of 2006), Lagos State Safeguarding and Child Protection Program.
“We also use this medium to remind the general public on the implication pertaining to engaging in any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving of a child commits an offence and is liable to custodian sentence of fourteen (14) years. This includes producing disturbing, receiving, or processing an image of child pornography.
In the meantime, all Chrisland schools within Lagos State are hereby closed, pending further investigations.
