Relief came the way of the poor mother of Jumoke Oyeleke, 25, who was murdered by a team of Nigeria police at the Yoruba Nation’s rally as the Lagos State Government provided a temporary furnished two-bedroom apartment for the family.
The house provided to the woman, Mrs Ifeoluwa Oyeleke was situated at Irawo Area of Ikorodu in Lagos.
It would be recalled that a stray bullet of the police hit Jumoke at Ojota Area of Lagos on Saturday July 3, 2021, during a protest to demand for Yoruba Nation.
The deceased mother was equally presented a cheque of N1 million to begin a business.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Administration, noted that the house was to alleviate the family’s immediate need, adding that further steps would be taken to ameliorate the sufferings of the family.
Sanwo-Olu said, “Since the time of the incident, we have been following up with her state and we have been to her initial place of abode. Immediately the incident happened, we started to follow up with her, to find out how she’s doing, especially economically. So, thinking from the visits to her initial place of abode, if it is not possible to bring up or return the dead, we can at least ameliorate as much of the suffering and ease life as much as possible for the people that the departed have left behind. So, here we are at the new place of abode of Mrs Ifeoluwa Oyeleke with her children. We want to also present a little bit of a token, to help ease into the next phase of life”.
In her reaction, Oyeleke, a domestic help, who engages in assisting people to wash their cloth, sweep compounds and other menial jobs contracted to her, was full of gratitude.
She appealed to the government to find her a good job so that she could take care of the other children and have the economic power to pay the house rent when it expires after three years.
