Minister of Health in Lebanon, Hassan Hamad has stated that over 27 persons have died in a huge explosion that occurred on Tuesday August 4, 2020 at Beirut’s port.
The cause of the huge explosion. which was heard across the city, is yet to be known.
Hamad further revealed that over 2,500 were injured, pointing out that as at the time of filing this report, the hospitals are overwhelmed by the cases needed to be dealt with.
The explosion is stated to have caused serious damage to several buildings and many are still trapped in their homes.
The explosion is said to have happened in an area that accommodate highly explosive materials.
According to Lebanon’s interior minister, Mohammed Fahmi, the explosion appeared to have been caused by ammonium nitrate that was stored in a warehouse at the port.
