Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, has appointed former chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan branch, Professor Ayodeji Omole, as the Pro-Chancellor of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.
Other members of the University’s Governing Council include Professor Lanre Olaniyan, Mrs. Titilayomi Ahmadu, Hon. Adekunle Bankole and Mr. Adeosun Olukunle Idowu.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the appointments were in line with Governor Makinde’s promise to put the Council in place to reflect the new ownership status of the University.
It will be recalled that following efforts by the Makinde-led administration, the joint ownership of the institution was resolved in favour of Oyo State.
Prof. Omole, who has now been appointed as the Pro-Chancellor of LAUTECH, chaired the Oyo State Negotiation Committee on the Sole Ownership of LAUTECH, which worked with its Osun State counterpart to negotiate what has now become an amicable resolution.
Omole, is a professor at the Department of Forest Production and Products, University of Ibadan, while Prof. Olaniyan, a Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics, University of Ibadan, is the current Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development of the University.
Mrs. Ahmadu, a Chartered Accountant is currently the Managing Partner of TAPS Professionals (Chartered Accountants). Mr. Idowu Adeosun, who served as the secretary of the state’s negotiation committee on LAUTECH ownership, recently retired from the Oyo State Civil Service as a Permanent Secretary.
Hon. Bankole was a former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Oriire Local Government, Ikoyi-Ile.
