The Niger State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Mubarak, suspected to be mentally unstable, for allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old man, Shamseen Danshehu, to death.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening in the Kwangila area of Minna, the state capital. Witnesses reported that Mubarak engaged Danshehu in a physical altercation, during which he allegedly stabbed him in the chest with a pair of scissors.
Danshehu was quickly rushed to the Minna General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Residents of the area expressed shock over the incident, stating that they were unaware of what led to the fight. However, they noted that Mubarak was often seen roaming the streets and scavenging through refuse containers.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, stated that the suspect had been taken into custody.
“It was reported that one Mubarak, who is suspected of insanity and also scavenges around Kwangila, had a fight with a passerby, Shamseen Danshehu, 25, of the same area,” Abiodun said.
“During the fight, the said scavenger stabbed Shamseen in the chest with a pair of scissors. The victim was rushed to the general hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The suspect has been arrested for further investigation.”
The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
