The Nigerian media has decried the state of insecurity in Nigeria, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to immediately overhaul the country’s security architecture.
The Chairman, Southwest Group of Online Publishers (SWEGOP), Olayinka Agboola stated this on Monday August 7, 2020, at the Special unification luncheon of the media professional body.
Agboola said, “I am using this opportunity to implore all of us to use everything at our disposal to continue to remind the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to do more than the usual and overhaul the country’s security architecture”.
Stressing the need to take the issue of insecurity very seriously, Agboola noted that the security of Nigeria is a collective responsibility of all Nigerians, not the government alone adding, “The assignment is not only for the government, we must be on our guards at all times”.
He commended the governors of the South West states in Nigeria for the bold move to establish the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed, ‘Amotekun Corps’, pointing out that it was a step toward a right direction.
“I will, however, implore them to make hay while the sun is still shinning. It is taking too long for them to activate the project. It is not rocket science. They should match action with words. Procrastination can dampen the spirit of our people. Our governors need to move faster”, he said.
“As for us at SWEGOP, we will do our best to keep our people informed on the activities of Amotekun when the project eventually takes off officially. We implore other security organisations to cooperate with our governors to make the Amotekun project to achieve its purposes”, he concluded.
